Brand Identity Design | Megah Mesra Construction
Posted on | January 27, 2010 | No Comments
Megah Mesra Construction Sdn. Bhd. is a young local company located in the heart city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The design brief was to develop a new corporate identity system which is carries value of constructive precision yet the finespun and touch of the Sabahan friendliness.
The concept came from building blocks which formed the main letters “M” for ‘Megah‘ (English translation : strong and solid) and ‘Mesra‘ (friendly & affectionate).
After the brand identity was developed, a set of designs were created for business cards, letterheads, company profile, envelopes and facsimile. Below are the samples of the final artwork that was finalised by the satisfied client.

4 reasons why web designers should offer email marketing as a service
Posted on | January 24, 2010 | No Comments
Not many things divide opinion in the web design world quite like email. There are the purists out there who live and die by plain text, right through to those who swear by a nicely formatted HTML newsletter. But the fact is that if done correctly, email is one of the most effective forms of online marketing available to your clients. This in turn makes it a very profitable service to add to your portfolio.
So, why get into email marketing?
Reason 1: You can already do it
Sure, there are some subtle differences, but if you can design and code a web page, you’ve got the basic skills required to build and send a HTML email. There are plenty of tools available today that make sending and measuring email marketing campaigns a painless process. Provided you can get the creative right and follow best practice for acquiring permission, you can start offering email marketing as a service in no time.
Once you understand email design, you can start extending your knowledge beyond creating templates. Learn more about growing your customer’s subscriber lists, avoiding spam filters, designing effective landing pages and a range of other areas that will ensure you maximise results for your clients.
Reason 2: It complements your current services
Email marketing is the perfect add-on product to package with your existing web design services. Once you launch a new web site for a client, why not help them drive traffic to the site and make the most of their investment.
Add a newsletter subscription form to each page of their site and start building a house list. Add an opt-in checkbox to their online store’s check-out process. Include paper-based sign up forms at all their offline stores. Do everything you can to encourage interested customers and subscribers to join your client’s list.
A few months after the site is launched and you’ve (hopefully) started growing a decent house list for your client, you might begin designing and sending a monthly newsletter or a latest specials email to this list, which leads us to the next point…
Reason 3: It’s a new and recurring revenue stream
Just like most web sites, an email marketing program is an organic thing that changes over time. Each issue needs to include new content or a new offer, there might be a design tweak you need to make or a new email client to test in. As well as improving your clients relationship with their customers or driving sales, an email marketing program can also provide a great cashflow injection each month.
The good news doesn’t stop there. A recent survey of 1,500 marketing professionals not only found that 72% planned to increase their spending on email marketing in 2007, but more than half were outsourcing their email marketing to designers and creative agencies.
Reason 4: It works
Actually, works is an understatement. Based on research conducted by the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing is predicted to return an incredible $48.29 for every dollar spent in 2007. To put this in perspective, that’s more than double the average return for other forms of online marketing and more than 6 times the return from print catalogs.
Why email marketing works
- It’s cost effective – While the cost of actually designing your email creative can be comparable to direct mail, the big savings start when you consider there are no printing costs and you can get your message delivered for around a cent per recipient.
- It’s immediate – Email generates an immediate response, instead of waiting for a subscriber to visit your site you can get your message to them when it counts. The majority of your recipients will see your message in the first 24-48 hours.
- It’s relevant – Email makes it easy to segment your subscribers using a variety of criteria like demographics and past campaign behaviour (such as clicking a certain link). This way you can ensure your message goes to the individuals most likely to be interested in your offer.
- It’s completely measureable – More than any other form of marketing, email can provide actionable data on the results it generates. Keep track of who opened your email and when, what topics they were interested in, who forwarded it on to a friend, how many sales were generated and much more.

Posted on | January 13, 2010 | No Comments
Today is a day of sorrow and mourning as our legendary hero of Malaysia & Borneo Isl;and, whom is also my grandfather through my father’s side, the late Datuk Aloysius Sibidol came to rest last night – 13th January 2010. He was very ill, bed-ridden for a few years and was treated for pneumonia in the local hospital here in Kota Kinabalu. It was a tough battle and I am still in great shock as I have always known him to be a strong, kind man, yet an amazing Goliath.
He is well known to the Sabah & Brunei locals; the Borneo community, as a veteran sportsman, also a veteran world champion t for winning numerous championships and achieving outstanding performances and even shattering numerous World-Records for events such as javelin, shot-putt and discus. That is how he got his nickname “Borneo Bomber”.
To family and friends who knows my late grandfather, Datuk Aloysius Sibidol, please do come to the late Datuk’s first son, Mr. Goldie Datuk Aloysius Sibidol, our house is located in Kg. Tunoh, Penampang for the ceremony to proceed.
Let us share our feelings, give our thanks and pray blessings to the late Datuk Aloysius Sibidol Duligin.
With great love from you grandson,
Ali Goldie.
Amin.
P/s: I made a promise to me late grandfather and with his blessing to build a small museum to commemorate his lifetime achievements. I pray my promise would be justified with help of my lovely family and friends.
If anyone who has information or some stories or want to express their experience about the late outstanding Datuk Aloysius Sibidol, please I ask help & assistance to make my this successful by contacting me anytime.

Machines Distracting Humans. Does Digital Tools Take Up Your Time at Work?
Posted on | January 7, 2010 | No Comments
Computer machines were first manufactured and initially marketed as devices or tools to help us at work. We were told they would perform amazing feats of office derring-do — summing up rows of numbers effortlessly, turning our musings into beautiful magazine-quality documents, and letting us collaborate with one another across multiple continents.
However, these past few days I notice myself having that most the time in front of the computer. I would be downloading web contents, socializing anywhere in our vast digital universe; – replying Emails, writing, web browsing, taking calls, Skyping, Facebook-ing, tweeting, designing, RSS Feeding. There are so many of these sites that just keeps you coming back to it – like an addiction! DO You suffer from ‘Internet Addictive Disorder’ (IAD) ? How do you value yourselves for utilising time on these digital gadgets of the future?!?
I found this great link to share; a ‘hierarchy chart of digital distractions’ by David McCandless, a London-based author, writer and designer, an independent data journalist and information designer. He has a great passion in visualizing information – the facts, data, ideas, subjects, issues, statistics, questions.
In this diagram, each level in this hierarchy trumps the next.
So, if you get a new msg on Facebook, but your landline rings, you’ll take the landline call. You might have a spasmodic moment of ‘uh? wadd I do’. But, usually, you’ll take the call.

Xerox was the first to introduced the modern graphical user interface paradigm we today take for granted – the mouse and keyboard. However, could there be another solutionor way to improve the standard user-computer interface interaction?
10/GUI aims to bridge this gap by rethinking the desktop to leverage technology in an intuitive and powerful way. I find this video to be brilliant & inspiring and would like to share this with you. What do you think would be our future for GUI technology?
If you have an interesting link or an interesting idea, do share it with us.
