As a fresh advertising studio and a caterer for office goods – Innajati Supplies Sdn Bhd contacted and hired me to develop a vibrant brand mark for their Corporate Identity System (CIS) for their namecards; letterheads and envelopes and later some flyers to promote their new launch here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysian Borneo.
A meeting was held to discuss some aspects that are required by the client, such as how the overall design look should contemplate diversity of products or how feeling of vivacity and warm friendliness should characterise their services towards the public.
I started with a design brief, then continued on some conceptual design sketches on my sketchbook. By using only text, a set of font types were tested as the main brandmark; some ideas followed using shapes of ‘a pencil and pen’ to replace the letters ‘I’ and tried with some drawn shapes of “stapler bullets” forming the “N letters”.
I even tried scanning various papers with different textures, thickness and patterns, nevertheless the client still found the designs were messy and uncouth.
After a few more blunders and failures, I finally I was inspired while playing around with some coloured “paper clips” and came up with a solution and finalised the brandmark with the clients consent and approval. Soon after, more designs were developed for Innajati’s corporate items such as letterheads, envelope and business cards including promotional flyers approved and printed approved specs.
I hope you enjoyed this post and please share what you think of this branding. Is it a bad or good design?
